I have a pretty cool collection of books and don’t think I really use any of them. People scan through my library and say things like “Awesome books, dude!” while they’re looking at the Tao Te Ching, or Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus, or something as ridiculous. Have they even read these books? I haven’t, well maybe a bit, and I usually put them down and forget anything they’ve tried to teach me within 10 minutes anyway so I think I should start using them.

I’m going to start with the oldest, but most overused and extra-intepreted mother of all self help books: the 2600 old text by none other than Sun Tzu himself: The Art Of War. I have the version translated by Yuan Shibing which means some chapter titles may differ from other versions but WHO CARES, DON’T BE SO FREAKIN PEDANTIC.

I will and try and use one chapter each week in my everyday life for a while. Starting with Chapter 1: Estimates. The problem is that I need to find an enemy to go to war with so I can use this book to crush them into complete submission like a fragile chinese-bug infested lotus leaf. For now I will just try to be slightly annoyed at someone, or try to feel challenged in some way by someone each day. This will be good enough to make them my enemy until I find a truly worthy adversary to practise my new art.

Today’s Stars

It will be a good week or so before I have enough material for a good solid investigation so I’ll kick it off with a simple easy one while I sit here staring at the last 7 minutes drain from the clock at work. I’ve got a copy of the Today section of the West Australian in front of me, neatly folded to the “Your Stars” column. Yeah, I like that. MY stars.

It says I have a tendency to cram too much into my day leaving my nerves ending up frazzled. It says Group goals are important at the moment and that I will benefit from contact with creative individuals. It tells me it’s a suitable time to spring-clean, also.

Let’s look at these. I work full-time, run a charity, have many blogs and I’m currently studying for a second university degree. I do end up exhausted much of the time. I have very important group goals right now, aswell! I am planning to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in 2011 with 12 of my friends to raise money for charity. Amazing! I have benefited very much from contact with a creative individual as well, infact one good mate has recently renovated my charity site. It looks unreal.

All of these things are today’s stars, and all relevant. Problem is they are virgo, scorpio, capricorn and taurus stars. I’m a cancer.

Oh and the suitable time to spring clean? Well, it’s Spring. Congratulations, Captain Obvious.

I won’t believe unless I see it.
